The Simon Konover Company Celebrates 50 Years

West Hartford, CT – September 24, 2009 – The Simon Konover Company celebrated 50 Years of Building Relationships on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Society Room in Hartford, Connecticut.
Simon Konover, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, first established his real estate business in 1959. The family Board of Directors and the Company executive team, together with corporate associates, were joined by colleagues, friends and community and business leaders to mark the milestone. A proclamation signed by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell declared September 23, 2009, The Simon Konover Company Day in Connecticut. In her tribute, Governor Rell said, “I commend Mr. Konover and his staff for their leadership, enthusiasm, contributions, and commitment to excellence in the real estate industry and giving back to those in need.”
Over the past fifty years, Simon Konover’s companies have developed, constructed, owned and managed an extensive portfolio of shopping centers, hotels, residential communities, office properties, industrial buildings, mixed use and specialty properties throughout the Midwest and Eastern regions of the United States.
Today, The Simon Konover Company cumulatively employs over 600 people through six operating companies headquartered in West Hartford, Connecticut, including Konover Commercial Corporation, Konover Hotel Corporation, Konover Residential Corporation, Simon Konover Development Corporation, and SIKON Construction Services, LLC. In addition, Konover South, LLC and SIKON Construction Corporation are affiliated companies located in Deerfield Beach, Florida. These two divisions employ 60 people and are involved in retail development, management and construction in the Southeastern United States.
Letters of recognition from, among others, Senators Christopher Dodd and Joseph Leiberman, Congressman Joe Courtney, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and West Hartford Mayor R. Scott Slifka were also presented.
In addition to his achievements as an entrepreneur, Simon Konover is recognized for his generosity and philanthropic contributions. He was instrumental in the creation of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut, and the Campus Center at the University of Hartford bears his name. Mr. Konover has been a long-time supporter of the Hole-In-The-Wall Camp for seriously ill children in Ashford, Connecticut. Several proclamations attesting to Mr. Konover’s philanthropic contributions were presented at Wednesday’s event.
James H. Canton, Chief Executive Officer of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, recognized Mr. Konover on the occasion. In his tribute, Mr. Canton said, “We are pleased to honor Mr. Konover and his achievements as both a successful entrepreneur and as a deeply devoted friend to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
Mr. Konover was a Founder of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC and served as President and Chairman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
Sara J. Bloomfield of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum wrote, in a letter presented at the celebration, “Your philanthropic leadership has been exemplary, including your early, exceptional generosity which helped build the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in its formative years.”
